2005 PERFORMANCE DATA TABLES.

General Comments

The notes in this document summarise the information on the website and have been prepared to help you interpret the student achievement data collected and collated by the Curriculum Council.  Please refer to the Curriculum Council website at www.curriculum.wa.edu.au for the complete set of performance data tables and accompanying explanations. The data about the schools is presented in alphabetical order and should be interpreted with caution.

The data should not be used to draw simplistic conclusions about school performance and the following general qualifiers should be recognised:

  • Many factors affect student performance, some of which are outside the control of schools.  These include differences in ability, cultural and language background, educational background of parents and economic differences.
  • No single table or data source should prevail.  A more realistic picture is gained from a composite view of all tables.
  • The statistics of a single year should not be considered in isolation, rather the trend or pattern over a number of years should be considered.
  • Small numbers can bias conclusions, particularly with percentages.
  • The quality assurance processes associated with the TEE data ensure consistent information from year to year and from school to school.  Whereas the non-TEE school data is not subject to the same processes.
