The Australian Curriculum - Consultation

During 2011 Western Australia provided feedback to the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) on:

  • Draft shape papers for the arts, languages and geography
  • General capabilities
  • Cross curriculum priorities
  • Support materials for teaching students for whom English is an additional language or dialect
  • Draft materials for students with special needs
  • Draft senior secondary courses

Draft new materials prepared by ACARA are available to all interested individuals and groups through the Australian Curriculum website at http://consultation.australiancurriculum.edu.au  You may like to check this site regularly for further updates.

 

Consultation - senior secondary Australian curriculum for English, mathematics, science and history

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) released the draft Australian curriculum for senior secondary years in English, mathematics, science and history in 2011.

The Curriculum Council submitted a detailed response that represented the considered opinions of the Department of Education, the Catholic Education Office, the Association of Independent Schools and the relevant council advisory committees.

The revised drafts of the fourteen Senior Secondary courses will be available for public consultation during semester 1,  2012.


Phase 2: Geography, the Arts, Languages 2012

Geography – Draft F (pre-primary) -12 Australian Curriculum: Geography

Feedback has been invited on the Draft F-12 Australian curriculum for geography. The closing date is 29 February 2012. The Curriculum Council is consulting with teachers to coordinate a Western Australian response.

The Arts

Western Australian representatives provided advice and feedback on the Shape of the Curriculum: The Arts paper, which outlines the direction for the development of the national arts curriculum for years F (pre-primary) to Year 12. This paper will guide the writing of the scope and sequence, content descriptions and elaborations for the arts. Further consultation will happen during 2012.

Languages – The Draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages

Western Australian representatives provided advice and feedback on the Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languagespaper, which outlines the direction for the development of the national Arts curriculum for years F (pre-primary) to Year 12. This paper which was released in November 2011, will guide the writing of the curriculum for languages. A summary of the Australia wide Consultation Feedback report on the Draft shape paper is on the ACARA website.

Phase 3: Technologies and Health and Physical Education (HPE) – 2012

Technologies – Current development

A national forum, which included representatives from Western Australia, was held in December 2011 to begin the curriculum development process for the Australian Curriculum: Technologies learning area which includes Information and Communication Technology, and Design and Technology.

Feedback from forum participants will guide the writing of the draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies paper, which will be available for public consultation in early 2012. The writing phase, including development of a draft curriculum for public consultation, will take place in 2012-2013.
 

Health and Physical Education (HPE)

Western Australian representatives provided advice on the draft shape paper. This paper will be available for consultation.
