Consensus moderation
Consensus moderation meetings for 2011 were held on Monday, 25 July (the first day of Term 3). Meetings were conducted for teachers of Stage 3 classes for those WACE courses examined for the first time in 2010 (except for Mathematics courses where meetings were held for MAT 1D/E, MAT 2C/D, MAT 3C/D and MAS 3C/D). A total of 220 meetings were conducted for 33 courses with 2159 teachers attending.
Schools that were unable to send a representative to a meeting registered a teacher to participate in an alternative process. These teachers were required to send the student assessment files to the Council for review.
Any teacher who, for unforseen circumstances, was unable to attend a meeting for which they were registered, completed the process at a follow-up meeting by mailing the materials to the Council for review or via a school moderation visit by a Council officer.
At the end of each meeting, teachers completed an evaluation form. The evaluation asked questions about the usefulness of the meeting, relevance of the course to student learning needs and the expected comparability between schools.
