Music

Implementation

2009 is the first year of implementation. The first WACE examinations for Music will be conducted in 2010.

Summary

In the Music course, students have opportunities to develop and extend their musical understandings, abilities and potential in a range of contexts. The three contexts defined in the Music course are: Western Art Music, Jazz, and Contemporary Music. At Stage 1, students can study across one or more of these contexts, and include such topics as Music for Music Theatre, Music for Film and Television, and World and Indigenous Musics depending on their needs and interests. For Stages 2 and 3, students are required to study one of the three contexts defined in the course. Through the study of aural, theory, composition and arrangement, cultural and historical analysis, and performance, students refine and develop their musicianship, engage in learning that develops music literacy and cultural awareness which reflects the world of performers, composers and audiences.
