In 2008 21 courses are available. Schools will select which courses to offer their students to meet their interests and needs within school resources.
The Curriculum Council accredits Year 11 and Year 12 wholly school-assessed subjects, (including vocational subjects), and Year 12 tertiary entrance examination (TEE) subjects.
For each of these subjects:
- schools award a grade. The processes used to determine these grades are moderated by the Curriculum Council to ensure comparability of standards of student achievement; and
- achievement of a grade counts towards the completion requirements for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
VET stands for Vocational Education and Training.
Opportunities to do VET, such as School Apprenticeship link Program and School Based Traineeships will continue. With a shortage of trade skills and the increase in the school leaving age, VET is more relevant than ever.
Students can use workplace learning (WL), VET, university studies, community organisation and personal development programs to meet up to half the requirements to achieve a WA Certificate of Education (WACE).
Endorsed programs can be done by students in learning arranged by WACE providers (e.g. schools, TAFE, universities, community organisations) or by students in their own time for the purpose of meeting WACE requirements.
