Year 12 Participation and Achievement – Curriculum Council Subjects (schools listed alphabetically).
The following notes provide definitions and explanations of each of the data columns reading from left to right.
Graduation
Number of full time students eligible to graduate.
A ‘full-time’ student is in Year 11 or 12 and has results for at least four full-year (or equivalent) Curriculum Council subjects in the current year, and in addition is eligible to graduate. A ‘result’ in a subject means the awarding of one of the grades (A, B, C, D, E, or U (unfinished).
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who graduated.
The column refers to the number of full-time students who completed graduation requirements. Graduation means ‘achievement of a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)’. To qualify for a WACE a student must:
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who graduated.
This column expresses the number of students who graduated as a percentage of all students eligible to graduate.
Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) Achievement
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who sat four or more TEE subjects.
This column expresses the number of students who were eligible to graduate who had a scaled mark in four or more TEE subjects. Generally four scaled marks are required for a TER.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who sat four or more TEE subjects.
This percentage gives an indication of the proportion of students in the school cohort who may be seeking a TER. Students who have a scaled mark in four or more TEE subjects and who have no intention of applying for university will also be included.
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who had at least one scaled mark greater than 75.
This column expresses the number of students who were eligible to graduate who had at least one scaled mark greater than 75. The scaled mark is used to calculate the TER.
The school assessment and raw examination mark are adjusted to the same scale and then combined on a 50:50 basis. These combined marks are then adjusted according to the relative difficulty of the subject.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who had at least one scaled mark greater than 75.
This column expresses the proportion of students in the school cohort who were eligible to graduate who had at least one scaled mark greater than 75.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who sat four or more TEE subjects and received average scaled marks in the Low, Mid and High thirds.
The average scaled mark includes a 50% school and 50% Tertiary Entrance Examination component. Across the state, 33⅓% of students will populate the Low, Mid and High thirds. This statistic shows the average scaled mark achievement of students in the school compared to the state.
Wholly School Assessed Achievement
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who completed three or more WSA subjects.
Wholly School Assessed (WSA) subjects do not have an external exam component and do not contribute to university entry. Most students who complete three or more WSA subjects will not also complete four or more TEE subjects, although there may be exceptions. In general, these students will be seeking career opportunities or further TAFE studies that do not include university as an immediate goal. They must have undertaken 10 or more Curriculum Council subjects or VET equivalent.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who completed three or more WSA subjects.
This percentage gives an indication of the proportion of students in the school cohort who will be seeking career opportunities or further TAFE studies that do not include university as an immediate goal.
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who completed three or more WSA subjects and received at least one A grade.
The grades for WSA subjects are awarded at the school level through moderation procedures of the Curriculum Council. There is no external component to the grade. Each student is included once only. There is no discrimination between a student who achieves one A grade and a student who achieves many A grades. SWL (Structured Workplace Learning) is a WSA subject.
Achievements in Wholly School Assessed subjects do not count towards a student’s Tertiary Entrance Rank.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who completed three or more WSA subjects and received at least one A grade.
The percentage gives a proportion of the cohort of students in the school who achieve at least one A grade. This statistic recognises the first A grade that an individual student achieves but does not indicate where multiple A grades may have been achieved.
Structure Workplace Learning
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who participated in at least one Structure Workplace Learning (SWL) subject.
The number of students in the school (who have undertaken 10 or more D/E code subjects or equivalent) who participate in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) for one or more subjects. A ‘SWL subject’ is a Structured Workplace Learning subject which is wholly School Assessed, and for which there is no Tertiary Entrance Examination developed. Achievements in these subjects do not count towards a student’s Tertiary Entrance Score.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who participated in at least one SWL subject.
The percentage gives a proportion of the cohort of students in the school (who have undertaken 10 or more D/E code subjects or equivalent) who participate in Structured Workplace Learning. There is no way to distinguish between students who take one or more than one subject.
Number of full time students eligible to graduate who achieved at least one A grade in at least one SWL subject.
In SWL grades are awarded for achievement in the workplace using an employer rating. The school monitors student logbooks but there is no school component to the grade.
Percentage of full time students eligible to graduate who achieved at least one A grade in at least one SWL subject.
The percentage gives a proportion of the cohort of students in the school who achieve at least one A grade in an SWL subject. This statistic recognises the first A grade that an individual student achieves but does not indicate where multiple A grades may have been achieved.
