Premier Colin Barnett has congratulated the winners of WA’s top secondary education awards – the Beazley Medal.
Binu Jayawardena (TEE), a graduate of Hale School, and Emma Hudson (VET), who graduated from St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, met the Premier at an informal function in Kings Park on Sunday 4 January before he presented them to the WA media.
The students fielded questions about themselves and WA education, Binu explaining he had been educated in four school systems in three countries.
He said the opportunities in WA’s education system exceeded what was available in most other countries.
Binu plans to study medicine at UWA
Emma, who hopes to complete a 12-month Diploma of Business at TAFE in just six months, switched to VET subjects in 2008 after studying tertiary entrance subjects in Year 11.
She recommended that other students consider this option.
